Giant Eagle Shoppers all know to well about the Advantage Card. The Advantage card not only gives you card member only sales but also tracks your purchases at Giant Eagle and Get Go gas stations.  Advantage card members earn 10¢ off per gallon of fuel (up to 30 gallons) for ever $50 in groceries they buy. They also earn 1% in Food Perks for every 10 gallons of fuel purchases. The best part is you even earn on the fuel you purchase at a discounted price when redeeming your Fuel Perks.

In order to Maximize both your food perk and fuel perk savings here are a few tips. Food Perks expire 3 months after the month they are earned. For example, food perks earned in November will expire February 28th.  Fuel Perks expire 2 months after the month they are earned. So fuel perks earned in November would expire January31st.  The bottom of your receipt will tell you if you have any perks expiring that month. It is best to check at the beginning of each month so you can plan accordingly.

Watch for a great sale. Especially on items you don’t often get coupons for such as meat and pop. Make a list an plan for a large shopping trip instead of several small ones.  Your food perks are good up to $300 so if you have 20% you can save up to $60. My local Giant Eagle limits the cases of pop you can buy to 4 so when using my food perks on pop I go to a different store that does not limit. My store also limits my coupons to 5 like manufacturer coupons to 5 of the same instead of 12 like most other Giant Eagles, this is another reason I will shop at a different store while using my food perks.

Maximize your fuel perks savings by getting as close to 30 gallons as possible. I wait until my fuel perks are ready to expire and get all 30 gallons by filling up a vehicle and several gas cans. The gas cans are stored in a well ventilated area. If you don’t have the need to store gas for lawn movers, snow blowers, etc you can simply refill your car the next time it need gas.

For the most part unless you can find gas over 10¢ a gallon cheaper it is best to fill up at Get Go even if it is a little bit more.

10 gallons x $3 = $30 and you earn 1% in Food Perks.  1% on $100 is $1, on $200 is $2, and on $300 is $3.

The above example shows you that even only buying $100 worth of groceries and using your Food Perks you break even. If you purchase more than that the savings begin.
